"Will the cure for autism be discovered in China? A decade ago this would have been a preposterous question. But today people such as Wang Jian, a genetic researcher with a liking for cargo pants, believe the answer could be yes." China has been labeled a 'copy-cat' for many years because of their reproduction of items sold cheaper to outside customers. Thus we forget they that they invented gunpowder and the compass. But recent years have shown that they have slipped from the hands of originality. “Our ability to copy is far greater than our originality,” Zhang Xin, chief executive of real estate group Soho, told a panel discussion." But lately China has had a rejuvenation of innovations. Mr. Wang interviews on behalf of BGI, a very large genetic sequencing company. He tells Hook, the interviewer, that they may have made a huge discovery pertaining to a cure for autism. BGI has mapped out cancer genomes for almost all animals, plants, and humans. With this information, they have had many new leads for medicines, therapy drugs, and new cures.
